Book Sempre libres e vivas (Always Free and Alive)

A publicación recolle como xorde a acción de sensibilización social “En negro contra as violencias” en Galicia, e como se foi expandindo durante oito anos e traspasou fronteiras, chegando á cidade de Morelia, en México.

The publication documents how the social awareness campaign En negro contra as violencias (In Black Against Violence) emerged in Galicia, how it expanded over eight years, and even crossed borders, reaching the city of Morelia in Mexico.

In 2015, in Santiago, Compostela en Negro was launched, a municipal initiative to raise social awareness against gender-based violence, on the occasion of the November 25th observance of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. The following year, in 2016, with the drive and coordination of Santiago de Compostela’s city council, this action spread to 17 other municipalities, giving rise to En negro contra as violencias, a Galician-wide awareness campaign. Over the following years, it progressively expanded, involving 150 municipalities, 300 companies, and hundreds of organizations, schools, and thousands of shops.

The publication traces the campaign’s evolution over eight years, documenting how it expanded and grew with each action carried out in municipalities—large and, above all, small—as well as in schools and businesses. A cross-cutting initiative that also crossed borders, reaching the city of Morelia in Mexico and the University of La Laguna in the Canary Islands. It was significant for many reasons, among them the involvement of many men who took a stand against gender-based violence, and also for becoming a transmedia action driven by citizens.

The publication was produced with the collaboration of the Santiago de Compostela City Council.
